Our mission is to offer a full service experience in all areas of family history and genealogy. We can set up complete programs, research historic events or even help locate the one ancestor you are missing from your family tree.
I have been a genealogy hobbiest for many years. Upon moving to Monterey, California I had the opportunity to attend Monterey Peninsula College's Family History (Library Services) Associate Degree program under the instruction of Karen Clifford, AG. Following completion of that program I went on to earn a BA in History from Columbia College. I have also taken graduate level courses in archiving, historical writing, preservation and oral history and will complete a MA in Public History from American Military University in June 2017.
I decided to follow my passion for genealogy and family history and embark on a career as a professional genealogist and historian.
I am currently on the board of The Fairfield Foundation and have been involved in the Mathews County Historical Society where I have coordinated their Historic House Tour and was curator of Tompkins Cottage from 2014-2016.
Personally, I am married to my wonderful husband Jay Black (hence the new name of Lori Jackson Black) and am the mother of three.
I have over 2000 members on my personal family tree and have enjoyed sharing this with my extended family. I have led a nomadic life. I grew up in Washington State then moved to Fort Worth, Texas for six years, then coastal California for five years before settling in Virginia ten years ago. I have fallen in love with the rich histories of each area.
In addition to my work, I served as the Virginia State Special Education Advisory Committee Chair from 2013-2015. I was appointed by the Virginia State Board of Education to the committee in 2009. I am also a member of the Mathews Rotary Club and was president of that club from 2014-2015. I am the webmaster/social media coordinator for the Mathews Rotary Club and Kingston Parish Episcopal Church, where I am a member.
